(३) लग्नादिसप्तमांशेशास्त्वोजे राशौ यथाक्रमम् । युग्मे लग्ने स्वरांशानामधिपाः सप्तमादयः ॥
3) The lords of the seven parts (saptamsha) go in order from the lagna [sign itself] in an odd sign; in an even sign, the lords of the seven parts begin from the 7th.

(४) चापाजसिंहराशीनां नवांशास्तुम्बुरादयः । वृषक्नयामृगाणां च मृगाद्या नव कीर्तिताः ॥
(4) For Sagittarius, Aries and Leo, the navamshas begin from Aries (Tumbura); for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, the nine begin from Capricorn.

नृयुक्तुलाघटानां च तुलाद्याश्चांशका नव । कर्किवृश्चिकमीनानां कर्कटाद्या नवांशकाः ॥
For Gemini, Libra and Aquarius the nine navamshas begin from Libra; for Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces the navamshas begin from Cancer.

चरे चाद्यंशको ज्ञेयः, स्थिरे मध्यनवांशकः । अन्त्यांशको द्विस्वभावे वर्गोत्तम इति स्मृतः ॥
In a movable sign the first navamsha is to be known [as vargottama]; in a fixed sign the middle one; in a dual sign the last; it is remembered as vargottama.

(५) लग्नादिदशमांशेशात्वोजे, युग्मे शुभादिकाः (६) द्वादशांशाधिपतयस्तत्तद्रासिवशानुगाः ॥
(5) The lords of the tenth-parts (dashamsha): in an odd sign they begin from the lagna [sign itself]; in an even sign from the auspicious one (the 9th). (6) The lords of the twelfth-parts (dvadashamsha) follow the respective signs [starting from the sign itself].
