लग्नं होरा दृकाणं स्वरनवदशकद्वादशांशा कलांशाःत्रिंशत्षष्ट्यंशकाख्या व्ययदुरितचयश्रिकरा मानवानाम् । होरा राश्यर्धमोजे इनकरशशिनोरिन्दुमार्तण्ढोरे (२)युग्मे राशौ, दृगाणा निजतनयतपःस्थानपानां भवन्ति॥
Now the ten divisions (dashavarga) and their lords. The lagna, hora, drekkana, the seventh-part (svara = 7), ninth-part, tenth-part, twelfth-part, the sixteenth-part (kala = 16), and those called the thirtieth-part and sixtieth-part [are the ten]; they bring people loss, trouble, gain and prosperity. (1) Hora is half a sign: in an odd sign [the halves] are the Sun's and the Moon's; in an even sign the Moon's and the Sun's. (2) The drekkanas belong to the lords of the sign itself, of its 5th and of its 9th.
