[Seasons for purification] Excess heat, rain and cold are the signature features of summer (greeshma), rainy (varsha) and winter (hemanta) seasons respectively. The three seasons viz., the period between summer and rains (pravrita), autumn (sharada) and spring (vasanta), which come in between the above mentioned are known as general seasons (sadharana ritu).
The months Shuchi (Aashadha, Mid June to Mid July) and Nabha (Shravana, Mid July to Mid August) together are known as Pravrita ritu. The months Urja (Kartika, Mid October to Mid November) and Saha (Margashersha –Mid November to Mid December) are known as Sharada ritu. The months Tapasya (Phaalguna -Mid February to Mid March) and Madhu (Chaitram- mid March to mid April) are known as Vasanta ritu.
