शुकदहनबन्धुजीवकलाक्षाक्षतजौपमा हुताशसुताः । आग्नेय्यां दृश्यन्ते तावन्तस्ते अपि शिखिभयदाः ॥ ११-११ ॥

The Ketus that are of the colour of the parrot, of fíre, of Bhandhu-Jīvika flower, of lac or of blood are the sons of Agni (fìre) and appear in the south-east; they are 25 in number; when they appear mankind will be afflicted with fears.

english translation

वक्रशिखा मृत्युसुता रूक्षाः कृष्णाश्च ते अपि तावन्तः । दृश्यन्ते याम्यायां जनमरकऽवेदिनस्ते च ॥ ११-१२ ॥

The Ketus or comets whose tails are bent and which are of sharp rays and black are the sons of Yama; they are 25 in number; they appear in the south; when they appear there will be deaths in the land.

दर्पणवृत्तऽकारा विशिखाः किरणान्विता धरातनयाः । क्षुद्भयदा द्वाविंशतिरैशान्यां अम्बुतैलनिभाः ॥ ११-१३ ॥

The Ketus or comets that appear like a mirror, are round in shape without tails but with rays and looking like oil or water are the sons of the Earth; they are 23 in number, and appear in the north-east; when they appear mankind will be afflicted with fear and hunger.

शशिकिरणरजतहिमकुमुदकुन्दकुसुमौपमाः सुताः शशिनः । उत्तरतो दृश्यन्ते त्रयः सुभिक्षावहाः शिखिनः ॥ ११-१४ ॥

The Ketus or comets that appear bright like the moon, silver, snow, white jasmine and the white water lily are the sons of the moon; they appear in the north and are in number; when they appear mankind will be happy.

zazikiraNarajatahimakumudakundakusumaupamAH sutAH zazinaH । uttarato dRzyante trayaH subhikSAvahAH zikhinaH ॥ 11-14 ॥

ब्रह्मसुत एक एव त्रिशिखो वर्णैस्त्रिभिर्युगान्तकरः । अनियतदिक्सम्प्रभवो विज्ञेयो ब्रह्मदण्डाख्यः ॥ ११-१५ ॥

A single comet possessing three tails and three colours is called Brahmadaṇḍa (born of the creator); it appears anywhere; when it appears the world will come to an end.

brahmasuta eka eva trizikho varNaistribhiryugAntakaraH । aniyatadiksamprabhavo vijJeyo brahmadaNDAkhyaH ॥ 11-15 ॥
