The patient should be made to drink the fresh, warm blood (sadyas-kaṃ asṛk) drawn from living animals such as deer, cows, buffaloes, or goats. This serves as an immediate restorer of the vital life-force (jīva-abhisandhānaṃ), because the consumed blood quickly assimilates and replenishes the lost life-blood (jīvaṃ) within the body.
