आमाशयस्थो हत्वाग्निं सामो मार्गान् पिधाय यत् । विदधाति ज्वरं दोषस्तस्मात्कुर्वीत लङ्घनम् ॥ १ ॥
The Doshas get localized in Amasaya (stomach) destroy the fire (digestive activity), become Sa Ama (mixed with undigested materials) obstruct the passages (of Rasa Dhatu) and produce fever. Therefore Langhana (lightening therapy) should be done.

AmAzayastho hatvAgniM sAmo mArgAn pidhAya yat । vidadhAti jvaraM doSastasmAtkurvIta laGghanam ॥ 1 ॥

Either during the premonitory stage of Jwara, or commencement of Jwara, afeguarding the strength of the body should be done with all efforts; as the health depends on strength, and the purpose of treatment is maintenance of health

Benefits of Langhana (Fasting) : When the Doshas become reduced by fasting, the digestive power becomes increased, and there is feeling of lightness of the body, health, (comfort), hunger, thirst, desire for food, good digestion, strength and vitality, enthusiasm, immunity manifest.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptसद्योभुक्तस्य सञ्जाते ज्वरे सामे विशेषतः । वमनं वमनार्हस्य शस्तं कुर्यात्तदन्यथा ॥ ५ ॥
simultaneously,when the fever manifests immediately after meals,especially when the fever is accompanied with Ama, then Vamana therapy is especially ideal to those who are suitable for it.
