Arthashastra
कुपित मूल भिन्न गर्भयोः कुपित मूलं प्रशमित कोपं साम आदिभिर् युध्येत, न भिन्न गर्भम् अन्योन्यस्माद् भिन्नम् ॥
Of provoked and disunited armies, that, of which a part is provoked, may be taken to fight after pacifying it by conciliation and other strategic means but not the disunited army, the members of which are estranged from each other.

kupita mUla bhinna garbhayoH kupita mUlaM prazamita kopaM sAma Adibhir yudhyeta, na bhinna garbham anyonyasmAd bhinnam ॥
