Arthashastra
हस्त्य् अश्वयोर् विशेषः कुलं जातिः सत्त्वं वयः स्थता प्राणो वर्ष्म जवस् तेजः शिल्पं स्तैर्यम् उदग्रता विधेयत्वं सुव्यञ्जन आचारता इति ॥
The best army is that which consists of strong infantry and of such elephants and horses as are noted for their breed, birth, strength, youth, vitality, capacity to run even in old age, fury, skill, firmness, magnanimity, obedience, and good habits.

hasty azvayor vizeSaH kulaM jAtiH sattvaM vayaH sthatA prANo varSma javas tejaH zilpaM stairyam udagratA vidheyatvaM suvyaJjana AcAratA iti ॥
