संग्रामस् तु निर्दिष्ट देश कालो धर्मिष्ठः ॥
As to an open or fair fight, a virtuous king should call his army together, and, specifying the place and time of battle, address them thus:

saMgrAmas tu nirdiSTa deza kAlo dharmiSThaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंहत्य दण्डं ब्रूयात् "तुल्य वेतनो अस्मि, भवद्भिः सह भोग्यम् इदं राज्यम्, मया अभिहितैः परो अभिहन्तव्यः" इति ॥
"I am a paid servant like yourselves; this country is to be enjoyed (by me) together with you; you have to strike the enemy specified by me."
english translation
saMhatya daNDaM brUyAt "tulya vetano asmi, bhavadbhiH saha bhogyam idaM rAjyam, mayA abhihitaiH paro abhihantavyaH" iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवेदेष्व् अप्य् अनुश्रूयते समाप्त दक्षिणानां यज्ञानाम् अवभृथेषु "सा ते गतिर् या शूराणाम्" इति ॥
His minister and priest should encourage the army by saying thus:-- "It is declared in the Vedas that the goal which is reached by sacrificers after performing the final ablutions in sacrifices in which the priests have been duly paid for is the very goal which brave men are destined to attain."

vedeSv apy anuzrUyate samApta dakSiNAnAM yajJAnAm avabhRtheSu "sA te gatir yA zUrANAm" iti ॥

Beyond those places which Bráhmans, desirous of getting into heaven, attain together with their sacrificial instruments by performing a number of sacrifices, or by practising penance are the places which brave men, losing life in good battles, are destined to attain immediately.
english translation
"yAn yajJa saMghais tapasA ca viprAH svarga eSiNaH pAtra cayaiz ca yAnti । kSaNena tAn apy atiyAnti zUrAH prANAn suyuddheSu parityajantaH ॥
