अहः सम्नाह परिश्रान्तान् अपर अह्ने अभिहन्यात् ॥

Or he may strike the enemy's men during the afternoon when they are tired by making preparations during the forenoon;

शुष्क चर्म वृत्त शर्कर आकोशकैर् गो महिष उष्ट्र यूथैर् वा त्रस्नुभिर् अकृत हस्त्य् अश्वं भिन्नम् अभिन्नः प्रतिनिवृत्तं हन्यात् ॥

One should strike an army that lacks elephants and horses—whether it is broken, unified , or retreating—using projectiles such as dried leather, cotton balls, or gravel, or by employing startled herds of cattle , buffaloes, and camels.

zuSka carma vRtta zarkara Akozakair go mahiSa uSTra yUthair vA trasnubhir akRta hasty azvaM bhinnam abhinnaH pratinivRttaM hanyAt ॥

प्रतिसूर्य वातं वा सर्वम् अभिहन्यात् ॥

Alternatively, one may strike the entire force when the sun and the wind are at their backs.

pratisUrya vAtaM vA sarvam abhihanyAt ॥

धान्वन वन संकट पङ्क शैल निम्न विषम नावो गावः शकटव्यूहो नीहारो रात्रिर् इति सत्त्राणि ॥

A desert, a dangerous spot, marshy places, mountains, valleys, uneven boats, cows, cart-like array of the army, mist, and night are sattras (temptations alluring the enemy against the invader).

dhAnvana vana saMkaTa paGka zaila nimna viSama nAvo gAvaH zakaTavyUho nIhAro rAtrir iti sattrANi ॥
