ऋते यद् अर्थं प्रणयाद् रक्ष्यते यच् च रक्षति । पूर्व उपचित सम्बन्धं तन् मित्रं नित्यम् उच्यते ॥

sanskrit

that friend who maintains friendship with disinterested motives and merely for the sake of friendship and by whom the relationship acquired of old is kept intact, is a long-standing friend.

english translation

Rte yad arthaM praNayAd rakSyate yac ca rakSati । pUrva upacita sambandhaM tan mitraM nityam ucyate ॥
