"संहिताः स्मः" इति सत्य संधाः पूर्वे राजानः सत्येन संदधिरे ॥
Honest kings of old made their agreement of peace with this declaration: "We have joined in peace."
english translation
"saMhitAH smaH" iti satya saMdhAH pUrve rAjAnaH satyena saMdadhire ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य अतिक्रमे शपथेन अग्न्य् उदक सीता प्राकार लोष्ट हस्ति स्कन्ध अश्व पृष्ट रथ उपस्थ शस्त्र रत्न बीज गन्ध रस सुवर्ण हिरण्यान्य् आलेभिरे "हन्युर् एतानि त्यजेयुश् च एनं यः शपथम् अतिक्रामेत्" इति ॥
In case of any apprehension of breach of honesty, they made their agreement by swearing by fire, water, plough, the brick of a fort-wall, the shoulder of an elephant, the hips of a horse, the front of a chariot, a weapon, seeds, scents, juice (rasa), wrought gold (suvarna), or bullion gold (hiranya), and by declaring that these things will destroy and desert him who violates the oath.

tasya atikrame zapathena agny udaka sItA prAkAra loSTa hasti skandha azva pRSTa ratha upastha zastra ratna bIja gandha rasa suvarNa hiraNyAny Alebhire "hanyur etAni tyajeyuz ca enaM yaH zapatham atikrAmet" iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशपथ अतिक्रमे महतां तपस्विनां मुख्यानां वा प्रातिभाव्य बन्धः प्रतिभूः ॥
In order to avoid the contingency of violation of oath, peace made with the security of such persons as ascetics engaged in penance, or nobles is peace with a security.

zapatha atikrame mahatAM tapasvinAM mukhyAnAM vA prAtibhAvya bandhaH pratibhUH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्मिन् यः पर अवग्रह समर्थान् प्रतिभुवो गृह्णाति, सो अतिसंधत्ते ॥
In such a peace, whoever takes as security a person capable of controlling the enemy gains more advantages.

tasmin yaH para avagraha samarthAn pratibhuvo gRhNAti, so atisaMdhatte ॥

while he who acts to the contrary is deceived.
