मित्रेण ग्राहयेत् पार्ष्णिम् अभियुक्तो अभियोगिनः । मित्र मित्रेण च आक्रन्दं पार्ष्णि ग्राहान् निवारयेत् ॥
he should, with his friend's help, hold his rear-enemy at bay; and with the help of his friend's friend, he should prevent his rear-enemy attacking the ákranda (his rear-ally).
english translation
mitreNa grAhayet pArSNim abhiyukto abhiyoginaH । mitra mitreNa ca AkrandaM pArSNi grAhAn nivArayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवं मण्डलम् आत्म अर्थं विजिगीषुर् निवेशयेत् । पृष्ठतश् च पुरस्ताच् च मित्र प्रकृति सम्पदा ॥
thus the conqueror should, through the aid of his friends, bring the Circle of States under his own sway both in his rear and front.
english translation
evaM maNDalam Atma arthaM vijigISur nivezayet । pRSThataz ca purastAc ca mitra prakRti sampadA ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकृत्स्ने च मण्डले नित्यं दूतान् गूढांश् च वासयेत् । मित्र भूतः सपत्नानां हत्वा हत्वा च संवृतः ॥
he should send messengers and spies to reside in each of the states composing the Circle and having again and again destroyed the strength of his enemies he should keep his counsels concealed, being friendly with his friends.
english translation
kRtsne ca maNDale nityaM dUtAn gUDhAMz ca vAsayet । mitra bhUtaH sapatnAnAM hatvA hatvA ca saMvRtaH ॥
