मित्रेण आश्रितश् चेत् शत्रुर् अग्राह्ये स्थातुम् इच्छेत् सामन्त आदिभिर् मूलम् अस्य हारयेत् ॥
If the enemy, helped by his friend, shuts himself in an impregnable fort, then his neighbouring enemies may be employed to lay waste his territory.
english translation
mitreNa Azritaz cet zatrur agrAhye sthAtum icchet sAmanta Adibhir mUlam asya hArayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदण्डेन वा त्रातुम् इछेत् तम् अस्य घातयेत् ॥
If he attempts to defend his territory by his army, that army may be annihilated.
english translation
daNDena vA trAtum ichet tam asya ghAtayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतौ चेन् न भिद्येयातां प्रकाशम् एव अन्योन्य भूम्या पणेत ॥
If those two were not to split, he would bet on the mutual ground of manifestation.

tau cen na bhidyeyAtAM prakAzam eva anyonya bhUmyA paNeta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः परस्परं मित्र व्यञ्जना वा उभय वेतना वा दूतान् प्रेषयेयुः "अयं ते राजा भूमिं लिप्सते शत्रु संहितः" इति ॥
Then they will, of course, send such of their messengers as are termed friends and recipients of salaries from two states to each other with information: "This king (the conqueror), allied with my army, desires to seize thy territory."

tataH parasparaM mitra vyaJjanA vA ubhaya vetanA vA dUtAn preSayeyuH "ayaM te rAjA bhUmiM lipsate zatru saMhitaH" iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयोर् अन्यतरो जात आशङ्क आरोषः, पूर्ववच् चेष्तेत ॥
Then one of them may, with enragement and suspicion, act as before (i.e., fall upon the conqueror or the friend).
