श्रेणी मुख्यम् आप्तं निष्पातयेत् ॥
THE conqueror may dismiss a confidential chief of a corporation.

zreNI mukhyam AptaM niSpAtayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस परम् आश्र्त्य पक्ष अपदेशेन स्व विषयात् साचिव्य कर सहाय उपादानं कुर्वीत ॥
The chief may go over to the enemy as a friend and offer to supply him with recruits and other help collected from the conqueror's territory
english translation
sa param Azrtya pakSa apadezena sva viSayAt sAcivya kara sahAya upAdAnaM kurvIta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकृत अपसर्प उपचयो वा परम् अनुमान्य स्वामिनो दूष्य ग्रामं वीत हस्त्य् अश्वं दूष्य अमात्यं दण्डम् आक्रन्दं वा हत्वा परस्य प्रेषयेत् ॥
or followed by a band of spies, the chief may please the enemy by destroying a disloyal village or a regiment or an ally of the conqueror and by sending as a present the elephants, horses, and disaffected persons of the conqueror's army or of the latter's ally.
english translation
kRta apasarpa upacayo vA param anumAnya svAmino dUSya grAmaM vIta hasty azvaM dUSya amAtyaM daNDam AkrandaM vA hatvA parasya preSayet ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptजन पद एक देशं श्रेणीम् अटवीं वा सहाय उपादान अर्थं संश्रयेत ॥
or a confidential chief officer of the conqueror may solicit help from a portion of the territory (of the enemy), or from a corporation of people (sreni) or from wild tribes.
english translation
jana pada eka dezaM zreNIm aTavIM vA sahAya upAdAna arthaM saMzrayeta ॥

One who has gained the trust of his master may be sent on a mission.
