पञ्च पल अवरा व्यावहारिकी भाजन्य् अन्तः पुर भाजनी च ॥

Public balance (vyávaháriká), servants' balance (bhájiní), and hare(antahpurabhájiní) successively decrease by five palas (compared with áyamáni).

paJca pala avarA vyAvahArikI bhAjany antaH pura bhAjanI ca ॥

तासाम् अर्ध धरण अवरं पलम्, द्वि पल अवरम् उत्तर लोहम्, षड् अङ्गुल अवराश् च आयामाः ॥

A pala in each of the above successively falls short of the same in áyamáni by half a dharana. The metallic mass of the levers of each of the above successively decreases in weight by two ordinary palas and in length by six angulas.

tAsAm ardha dharaNa avaraM palam, dvi pala avaram uttara loham, SaD aGgula avarAz ca AyAmAH ॥

पूर्वयोः पञ्च पलिकः प्रयामो मांस लोह लवण मणि वर्जम् ॥

Excepting flesh, metals, salt, and precious stones, an excess of five palas (prayáma) of all other commodities (shall be given to the king ) when they are weighed in the two first-named balances.

pUrvayoH paJca palikaH prayAmo mAMsa loha lavaNa maNi varjam ॥

काष्ठ तुला अष्ट हस्ता पदवती प्रतिमानवती मयूर पद अधिष्ठिता ॥

A wooden balance with a lever 8 hands long, with measuring marks and counterpoise weights shall be erected on a pedestal like that of a peacock.
