तुल्ये लाभ गुणे प्रधानम् आसन्नम् अनतिपातिनम् ऊनो वा येन भवेत् तम् आदातुं यायात् ॥
When the prospects of getting wealth (from two sides) are equal, one should march to secure that which is important, near, unfailing, and obtainable by easy means.
english translation
tulye lAbha guNe pradhAnam Asannam anatipAtinam Uno vA yena bhavet tam AdAtuM yAyAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइतो अनर्थ इतरतो अनर्थ इत्य् उभयतो अनर्थ आपत् ॥
When there is the apprehension of harm from one quarter as well as from another, it is wealth beset with danger from two sides.
english translation
ito anartha itarato anartha ity ubhayato anartha Apat ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्यां समन्ततो अनर्थायां च मित्रेभ्यः सिद्धिं लिप्सेत ॥
In this case as well as in the case of wealth involved in danger from all sides, success is to be desired with the help of friends.

tasyAM samantato anarthAyAM ca mitrebhyaH siddhiM lipseta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमित्र अभावे प्रकृतीनां लघीयस्य एकतो अनर्थां साधयेत्, उभयतो अनर्थां ज्यायस्या, समन्ततो अनर्थां मूलेन प्रतिकुर्यात् ॥
In the absence of friends, he should attempt to ward off harm from one side with the help of an ally who can be easily won over.
english translation
mitra abhAve prakRtInAM laghIyasya ekato anarthAM sAdhayet, ubhayato anarthAM jyAyasyA, samantato anarthAM mUlena pratikuryAt ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअशक्ये सर्वम् उत्सृज्य अपगच्छेत् ॥
If it is impossible to overcome, one should abandon everything and depart.
