That which is acquired best is just.

prazasta upAdAnAd dharmyaH ॥

That which is acquired without any hindrance from allies is profit coming first.

sAmavAyikAnAm anirbandha gAmitvAt purogaH iti ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतुल्ये लाभे देश कालौ शक्त्य् उपायौ प्रिय अप्रियौ जव अजवौ सामीप्य विप्रकर्षौ तदात्व अनुबन्धौ सारत्व सातत्ये बाहुल्य बाहु गुण्ये च विमृश्य बहु गुण युक्तं लाभम् आददीत ॥
When profits (from two sources) are equal, he should consider the place and time, the strength and means (required to acquire it), affection and disaffection (caused by it), intrigue and absence of intrigue (involving it), its nearness and distance, its present and future effects, its constant worth or worthlessness, and its plentifulness and usefulness; and he should accept only that profit which is possessed of most of the above good characteristics.

tulye lAbhe deza kAlau zakty upAyau priya apriyau java ajavau sAmIpya viprakarSau tadAtva anubandhau sAratva sAtatye bAhulya bAhu guNye ca vimRzya bahu guNa yuktaM lAbham AdadIta ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलाभ विघ्नाः कामः कोपः साध्वसं कारुण्यं ह्रीर् अनार्य भावो मानः सानुक्रोशता पर लोक अपेक्षा धार्मिकत्वम् अत्यागित्वं दैन्यम् असूया हस्त गत अवमानो दौरात्म्यम् अविश्वासो भयम् अप्रतीकारः शीत उष्ण वर्षाणाम् आक्षम्यं मङ्गल तिथि नक्षत्र इष्टित्वम् इति ॥
Obstructions to profit are: passion, anger, timidity, mercy, bashfulness, living like one who is not an Arya, haughtiness, pity, desire for the other world, strict adherence to virtuous life, deception, neediness, envy, negligence of what is at hand, generosity, want of faith, fear, inability to endure cold, heat, and rain, and faith in the auspiciousness of lunar days and stars.

lAbha vighnAH kAmaH kopaH sAdhvasaM kAruNyaM hrIr anArya bhAvo mAnaH sAnukrozatA para loka apekSA dhArmikatvam atyAgitvaM dainyam asUyA hasta gata avamAno daurAtmyam avizvAso bhayam apratIkAraH zIta uSNa varSANAm AkSamyaM maGgala tithi nakSatra iSTitvam iti ॥
