Arthashastra
जानपदम् एक अर्थ उपगतं तुल्य संघर्ष अमर्ष सिद्धि लाभं च श्रेणी बलं मित्र बलात् श्रेयः ॥
That corporation of soldiers which is native, which has the same end in view (as the king), and which is actuated with similar feelings of rivalry, anger, and expectation of success and gain, is better than the army of a friend.
english translation
jAnapadam eka artha upagataM tulya saMgharSa amarSa siddhi lAbhaM ca zreNI balaM mitra balAt zreyaH ॥
