सुरुङ्गाम् अमित्र स्थाने बहु मुखीं कृत्वा निचय मुख्यान् अभिहारयेत्, अमित्रं वा ॥

having widened the mouth of the underground tunnel of the enemy's fort, his stores and leaders may be removed; the enemy may also be likewise carried off.

suruGgAm amitra sthAne bahu mukhIM kRtvA nicaya mukhyAn abhihArayet, amitraM vA ॥

पर प्रयुक्तायां वा सुरुङ्गायां परिखाम् उदक अन्तिकीं खानयेत्, कूप शालाम् अनुसालं वा ॥

when the underground tunnel has been made by the enemy for his own use, the water in the ditch outside the fort may be made to flow into it.

para prayuktAyAM vA suruGgAyAM parikhAm udaka antikIM khAnayet, kUpa zAlAm anusAlaM vA ॥

तोय कुम्भान् कांस्य भाण्डानि वा शङ्का स्थानेषु स्थापयेत् खात अभिज्ञान अर्थम् ॥

One should place water jars or bronze vessels in locations where a breach is suspected in order to detect the presence of a tunnel.

toya kumbhAn kAMsya bhANDAni vA zaGkA sthAneSu sthApayet khAta abhijJAna artham ॥

ज्ञाते सुरुङ्गा पथे प्रतिसुरुङ्गां कारयेत् ॥

when the direction of the tunnel is found out, a counter-tunnel may be formed
