लुब्धक व्यञ्जना वा व्याल मृगान् पञ्जरेभ्यः प्रमुञ्चेयुः, सर्प ग्राहा वा सर्पान् उग्र विषान्, हस्ति जीविनो वा हस्तिनः ॥
spies as hunters may let off cruel beasts from traps; spies as snake charmers may let off highly poisonous snakes; those who keep elephants may let off elephants (near the enemy's camp).
english translation
lubdhaka vyaJjanA vA vyAla mRgAn paJjarebhyaH pramuJceyuH, sarpa grAhA vA sarpAn ugra viSAn, hasti jIvino vA hastinaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअग्नि जीविनो वा अग्निम् अवसृजेयुः ॥
those who live by making use of fire may set fire (to the camp, etc.).
english translation
agni jIvino vA agnim avasRjeyuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगूढ पुरुषा वा विमुखान् पत्त्य् अश्व रथ द्विप मुख्यान् अभिहन्युः, आदीपयेयुर् वा मुख्य आवासान् ॥
Secret spies may slay from behind the chiefs of infantry, cavalry, chariots and elephants, or they may set fire to the chief residences of the enemy. Traitors, enemies and wild tribes, employed for the purpose, may destroy the enemy's rear or obstruct his reinforcement.

gUDha puruSA vA vimukhAn patty azva ratha dvipa mukhyAn abhihanyuH, AdIpayeyur vA mukhya AvAsAn ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदूष्य अमित्र आटविक व्यञ्जनाः प्रणिहिताः पृष्ठ अभिघातम् अवस्कन्द प्रतिग्रहं वा कुर्युः ॥
or spies, concealed in forests, may enter into the border of the enemy's country, and devastate it;

dUSya amitra ATavika vyaJjanAH praNihitAH pRSTha abhighAtam avaskanda pratigrahaM vA kuryuH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवन गूढा वा प्रत्यन्त स्कन्धम् उपनिष्कृष्य अभिहन्युः, एक अयने वीवध आसार प्रसारान् वा ॥
or they may destroy the enemy's supply, stores, and other things, when those things are being conveyed on a narrow path passable by a single man.
english translation
vana gUDhA vA pratyanta skandham upaniSkRSya abhihanyuH, eka ayane vIvadha AsAra prasArAn vA ॥
