Arthashastra
ये च एनं याच्यम् अर्थं न याचन्ते तान् सत्त्रिणो ब्रूयुः "उक्तः शून्य पालो राज्ञा "याच्यम् अर्थम् असौ च असौ च मा न याचते, किम् अन्यत् स्व दोष शङ्कितत्वात्, तेषाम् उद्धरणे प्रयतस्व" इति ॥
Spies may also tell those who do not demand their due from the king that the officer in charge of waste lands has been told: "Such and such persons do not demand their due from me. What else can be the reason than their suspicion about my knowledge of their guilt? So make attempts to put them down."
english translation
ye ca enaM yAcyam arthaM na yAcante tAn sattriNo brUyuH "uktaH zUnya pAlo rAjJA "yAcyam artham asau ca asau ca mA na yAcate, kim anyat sva doSa zaGkitatvAt, teSAm uddharaNe prayatasva" iti ॥
