यैः श्रद्धया बर्हिषि भागशो हवि र्निरुप्तमिष्टं विधिमन्त्रवस्तुतः । एकः पृथङ् नामभिराहुतो मुदा गृह्णाति पूर्णः स्वयमाशिषां प्रभुः ।। ५-१९-२६ ।।

In India [Bhārata-varṣa], there are many worshipers of the demigods, the various officials appointed by the Supreme Lord, such as Indra, Candra and Sūrya, all of whom are worshiped differently. The worshipers offer the demigods their oblations, considering the demigods part and parcel of the whole, the Supreme Lord. Therefore the Supreme Personality of Godhead accepts these offerings and gradually raises the worshipers to the real standard of devotional service by fulfilling their desires and aspirations. Because the Lord is complete, He offers the worshipers the benedictions they desire even if they worship only part of His transcendental body. ।। 5-19-26 ।।

भारतवर्ष में परमेश्वर द्वारा नियुक्त विभिन्न अधिकारी स्वरूप देवताओं—यथा इन्द्र, चन्द्र तथा सूर्य—के अनेक उपासक हैं, जिन सभी की पृथक्-पृथक् विधियों से पूजा की जाती हैं। उपासक इन देवताओं को पूर्ण ब्रह्म का अंश मानते हुए अपनी आहुतियाँ अर्पण करते हैं, फलत: श्रीभगवान् इन भेंटों को स्वीकार करते हैं और क्रमश: इन उपासकों की कामनाओं तथा आकांक्षाओं को पूरा करके उन्हें शुद्ध भक्ति पद तक ऊपर उठा देते हैं। चूँकि श्रीभगवान् पूर्ण हैं, अत: वे उनको मनवांछित वर देते हैं, चाहे उपासक उनके दिव्य शरीर के किसी एक अंश की पूजा क्यों न करते हों। ।। ५-१९-२६ ।।

सत्यं दिशत्यर्थितमर्थितो नृणां नैवार्थदो यत्पुनरर्थिता यतः । स्वयं विधत्ते भजतामनिच्छतामिच्छापिधानं निजपादपल्लवम् ।। ५-१९-२७ ।।

The Supreme Personality of Godhead fulfills the material desires of a devotee who approaches Him with such motives, but He does not bestow benedictions upon the devotee that will cause him to demand more benedictions again. However, the Lord willingly gives the devotee shelter at His own lotus feet, even though such a person does not aspire for it, and that shelter satisfies all his desires. That is the Supreme Personality’s special mercy. ।‌। 5-19-27 ।।

english translation

पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् उस भक्त की भौतिक कामनाओं की पूर्ति करते हैं, जो सकाम भाव से उनके पास जाता है, किन्तु वे भक्त को ऐसा वर नहीं देते जिससे वह अधिकाधिक वर माँगता रहे। फिर भी, भगवान् प्रसन्नतापूर्वक ऐसे भक्त को अपने चरणकमलों में शरण देते हैं, भले ही वह इसकी आकांक्षा न करे और शरणागत होने पर उसकी समस्त इच्छाएँ पूरी हो जाती हैं। यह श्रीभगवान् की विशेष अनुकम्पा है। ।। ५-१९-२७ ।।

यद्यत्र नः स्वर्गसुखावशेषितं स्विष्टस्य सूक्तस्य कृतस्य शोभनम् । तेनाजनाभे स्मृतिमज्जन्म नः स्याद्वर्षे हरिर्यद्भजतां शं तनोति ।। ५-१९-२८ ।।

We are now living in the heavenly planets, undoubtedly as a result of our having performed ritualistic ceremonies, pious activities and yajñas and having studied the Vedas. However, our lives here will one day be finished. We pray that at that time, if any merit remains from our pious activities, we may again take birth in Bhārata-varṣa as human beings able to remember the lotus feet of the Lord. The Lord is so kind that He personally comes to the land of Bhārata-varṣa and expands the good fortune of its people. ।। 5-19-28 ।।

english translation

यज्ञ, पुण्य कर्म, अनुष्ठान तथा वेदाध्ययन करते रहने के कारणस्वरूप हम स्वर्ग-लोक में वास कर रहे हैं, किन्तु एक दिन ऐसा आएगा जब हमारा भी अन्त हो जाएगा। हमारी प्रार्थना है कि उस समय तक यदि हमारे एक भी पुण्य शेष रहें तो हम मनुष्य रूप में भगवान् के चरणकमलों का स्मरण करने के लिए भारतवर्ष में जन्म लें। श्रीभगवान् इतने दयालु हैं कि वे स्वयं भारतवर्ष में आते हैं और यहाँ के वासियों को सौभाग्य प्रदान करते हैं। ।। ५-१९-२८ ।।

श्रीशुक उवाच जम्बूद्वीपस्य च राजन्नुपद्वीपानष्टौ हैक उपदिशन्ति सगरात्मजैरश्वान्वेषण इमां महीं परितो निखनद्भिरुपकल्पितान् ।। ५-१९-२९ ।।

Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King, in the opinion of some learned scholars, eight smaller islands surround Jambūdvīpa. When the sons of Mahārāja Sagara were searching all over the world for their lost horse, they dug up the earth, and in this way eight adjoining islands came into existence ।। 5-19-29 ।।

english translation

श्रीशुकदेव गोस्वामी बोले—हे राजन्, कुछ ज्ञानी पुरुषों के मत के अनुसार जम्बूद्वीप के चारों ओर आठ छोटे-छोटे द्वीप हैं। जब महाराज सगर के पुत्र अपने खोये हुए घोड़े की खोज सारे संसार में कर रहे थे, तो उन्होंने पृथ्वी को खोद डाला। इस प्रकार से निकटस्थ आठ द्वीप अस्तित्व में आए। ।। ५-१९-२९ ।।

तद्यथा स्वर्णप्रस्थश्चन्द्रशुक्ल आवर्तनो रमणको मन्दरहरिणः पाञ्चजन्यः सिंहलो लङ्केति ।। ५-१९-३० ।।

The names of these islands are Svarṇaprastha, Candraśukla, Āvartana, Ramaṇaka, Mandara-hariṇa, Pāñcajanya, Siṁhala and Laṅkā. ।। 5-19-30 ।।

english translation

इन द्वीपों के नाम हैं—स्वर्णप्रस्थ, चन्द्रशुक्ल, आवर्तन, रमणक, मन्दरहरिण, पांचजन्य, सिंहल तथा लंका। ।। ५-१९-३० ।।
