किं दुष्करैर्नः क्रतुभिस्तपोव्रतैर्दानादिभिर्वा द्युजयेन फल्गुना । न यत्र नारायणपादपङ्कजस्मृतिः प्रमुष्टातिशयेन्द्रियोत्सवात् ।। ५-१९-२२ ।।

The demigods continue: After performing the very difficult tasks of executing Vedic ritualistic sacrifices, undergoing austerities, observing vows and giving charity, we have achieved this position as inhabitants of the heavenly planets. But what is the value of this achievement? Here we are certainly very engaged in material sense gratification, and therefore we can hardly remember the lotus feet of Lord Nārāyaṇa. Indeed, because of our excessive sense gratification, we have almost forgotten His lotus feet. ।। 5-19-22 ।।

english translation

देवता आगे कहते हैं—वैदिक यज्ञों के करने, तप करने, व्रत रखने तथा दान देने जैसे दुष्कर कार्यों के करने के पश्चात् ही हमें स्वर्ग में निवास करने का यह पद प्राप्त हुआ है। किन्तु हमारी इस सफलता का क्या महत्त्व है? यहाँ हम निश्चय ही भौतिक इन्द्रियतृप्ति में व्यस्त रहकर भगवान् नारायण के चरणकमलों का स्मरण तक नहीं कर पाते। अत्यधिक इन्द्रिय तृप्ति के कारण हम उनके चरणकमलों को लगभग विस्मृत ही कर चुके हैं। ।। ५-१९-२२ ।।
