कर्मवल्लीमवलम्ब्य तत आपदः कथञ्चिन्नरकाद्विमुक्तः पुनरप्येवं संसाराध्वनि वर्तमानो नरलोकसार्थमुपयाति एवमुपरिगतोऽपि ।। ५-१४-४१ ।।

sanskrit

When the conditioned soul accepts the shelter of the creeper of fruitive activity, he may be elevated by his pious activities to higher planetary systems and thus gain liberation from hellish conditions, but unfortunately he cannot remain there. After reaping the results of his pious activities, he has to return to the lower planetary systems. In this way he perpetually goes up and comes down. ।। 5-14-41 ।।

english translation

सकाम कर्म रूपी लता की शरण स्वीकार कर लेने पर बद्धजीव अपने पवित्र कार्यों के फलस्वरूप स्वर्गलोक को प्राप्त हो सकता है और इस तरह नारकीय स्थिति से तो उसे मुक्ति मिल सकती है, किन्तु वह दुर्भाग्यवश वहाँ रह नहीं पाता। अपने पवित्र कार्यों का फल भोगने के बाद उसे निम्न लोकों में लौटना पड़ता है। इस प्रकार वह निरन्तर ऊपर और नीचे आता-जाता रहता है। ।। ५-१४-४१ ।।
