Shiva Purana
भस्मधारी विशेषेण स्त्रीगोहत्यादिपातकैः । वीरहत्याश्वहत्याभ्यां मुच्यते नात्र संशयः ५५ ।
A person regularly applying the ash (bhasma) is freed of the sins of slaughter of women and cows and that of heroes and horses. There is no doubt about it.

bhasmadhArI vizeSeNa strIgohatyAdipAtakaiH । vIrahatyAzvahatyAbhyAM mucyate nAtra saMzayaH 55 ।
