जाबालकोक्तमंत्रेण भस्मना च त्रिपुंड्रकम् । अन्यथा चेज्जले पात इतस्तन्नरकमृच्छति २१ ।
The Tripuṇḍraka shall be drawn on the forehead with the Jābālaka mantra. If anyone enters water otherwise, he will surely go to hell.
english translation
jAbAlakoktamaMtreNa bhasmanA ca tripuMDrakam । anyathA cejjale pAta itastannarakamRcchati 21 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआपोहिष्ठेति शिरसि प्रोक्षयेत्पापशांतये । यस्येति मंत्रं पादे तु संधिप्रोक्षणमुच्यते २२ ।
According to scholarly authorities the mantrasnāna is as follows: Repeating the mantra “Āpo hi ṣṭhā” etc. water shall be sprinkled over the head for suppressing sins. Repeating the mantra “Yasya Kṣayāya” etc. water shall be sprinkled over the joints in the legs.
english translation
ApohiSTheti zirasi prokSayetpApazAMtaye । yasyeti maMtraM pAde tu saMdhiprokSaNamucyate 22 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपादे मूर्ध्नि हृदि चैव मूर्ध्नि हृत्पाद एव च । हृत्पादमूर्ध्नि संप्रोक्ष्य मंत्रस्नानं विदुर्बुधाः २३ ।
The order is as follows:—feet, head, chest; head, chest, feet and chest, feet, head for sprinkling with water thrice.
english translation
pAde mUrdhni hRdi caiva mUrdhni hRtpAda eva ca । hRtpAdamUrdhni saMprokSya maMtrasnAnaM vidurbudhAH 23 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptईषत्स्पर्शे च दौः स्वास्थ्ये राजराष्ट्रभयेऽपि च । अत्यागतिकाले च मंत्रस्नानं समाचरेत् २४ ।
It is enough if one performs mantra snāna when one is slightly indisposed, or when there is danger from the king or when there is civil commotion, or when there is no other way or when one is about to undertake a journey.
english translation
ISatsparze ca dauH svAsthye rAjarASTrabhaye'pi ca । atyAgatikAle ca maMtrasnAnaM samAcaret 24 ।
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रातः सूर्यानुवाकेन सायमग्न्यनुवाकतः । अपः पीत्वा तथामध्ये पुनः प्रोक्षणमाचरेत् २५ ।
He shall drink by way of Ācamana reciting the mantras from Sūryānuvāka in the morning or from Agni-Anuvāka in the evening and perform the ceremonial sprinkling in the middle.
english translation
prAtaH sUryAnuvAkena sAyamagnyanuvAkataH । apaH pItvA tathAmadhye punaH prokSaNamAcaret 25 ।
