जलदेवान्नमस्कृत्य मंत्रेण स्नानमाचरेत् । अशक्तः कंठदघ्नं वा कटिदघ्नमथापि वा १६ ।
After making obeisance to the gods of water, the twice-born shall perform the ablution with mantras. Sick or weak persons shall take bath upto the neck or hips.
आजानु जलमाविश्य मंत्रस्नानं समाचरेत् । देवादींस्तर्पयेद्विद्वांस्तत्र तीर्थजलेन च १७ ।
Sprinkling water upto the knees he shall perform the Mantrasnāna. He shall propitiate deities etc. sensibly with the water from the holy tank or river.
धौतवस्त्रं समादाय पंचकच्छेन धारयेत् । उत्तरीयं च किं चैव धार्यं सर्वेषु कर्मसु १८ ।
A washed dry cloth should be taken and worn in the form of paūcakaccha (wearing of the lower garment in a special way). In all sacred rites the upper cloth should also be used.
The sensible man shall take it to a separate tank or well or to the house itself and beat it on a rock or on a plank to the gratification of the manes, O brahmins.
