ततो ज्ञानमदात्तस्मै हरये परमात्मने ॥ परमात्मा पुनर्मह्यं दत्तवान्कृपया मुने ॥ ६ ॥
Then, that supreme knowledge was given by Shiva to Hari (Vishnu), the Supreme Soul. Later, the Supreme Soul (Hari) graciously gave it to me, O sage.
english translation
संप्राप्य निगमं विष्णुः पप्रच्छ पुनरेव तम् ॥ कृतार्थस्सांजलिर्नत्वा मया सह महेश्वरम् ॥ ७ ॥
After receiving the Vedas, Viṣṇu was satisfied and bowing to Him with palms joined in reverence along with me, he asked the lord Śiva.
english translation
विष्णुरुवाच ॥ कथं च तुष्यसे देव मया पूज्यः कथं प्रभो । कथं ध्यानं प्रकर्तव्यं कथं व्रजसि वश्यताम् ॥ ८ ॥
Viṣṇu said: O Lord, How are you propitiated? How shall I worship you, O lord? How shall I meditate on you? How are you impressed by any one?
english translation
किं कर्तव्यं महादेव ह्यावाभ्यां तव शासनात् ॥ सदासदाज्ञापय नौ प्रीत्यर्थं कुरु शंकर ॥ ९ ॥
O Great God, tell us what at Thy bidding shall we ever do? Please command us, O Śiva, do this to favour us.
english translation
एतत्सर्वं महाराज कृपां कृत्वाऽवयोः प्रभो ॥ कथनीयं तथान्यच्च विज्ञाय स्वानुगौ शिव ॥ 2-1-9-१० ॥
O Great lord, be merciful to tell us all these things. O Śiva, we are your followers. Taking this into mind, you will enlighten us on these and other similar points too.
