अवशिष्टाश्च ये केचित्पलायनपरायणाः ॥ निस्सृत्यारं समायाता हरेर्निकटमाकुलाः ॥३६॥
Those who escaped fled out of the cities and came grief-stricken to Viṣṇu.
english translation
avaziSTAzca ye kecitpalAyanaparAyaNAH ॥ nissRtyAraM samAyAtA harernikaTamAkulAH ॥36॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतान्दृष्ट्वा स हरिः श्रुत्वा तच्च वृत्तमशेषतः॥ चिंतयामास भगवान्मनसा पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ ३७ ॥
On seeing them and hearing the incidents in detail, lord Viṣṇu pondered over this.
english translation
tAndRSTvA sa hariH zrutvA tacca vRttamazeSataH॥ ciMtayAmAsa bhagavAnmanasA puruSottamaH ॥ 37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकिं कृत्यमधुना कार्यमिति संतप्तमानसः ॥ संतप्तानमरान्सर्वानाज्ञाय च सवासवान् ॥ ३८ ॥
On realising that all the gods were distressed and dejected in the mind, he too was extremely grieved.
english translation
kiM kRtyamadhunA kAryamiti saMtaptamAnasaH ॥ saMtaptAnamarAnsarvAnAjJAya ca savAsavAn ॥ 38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकथं तेषां च दैत्यानां बलाद्धत्वा पुरत्रयम् ॥ देवकार्यं करिष्यामीत्यासीच्चिंतासमाकुलः ॥३९॥
He became much worried at the thought “How can I destroy the three cities of the Asuras, with force and carry out the task of the gods?”

kathaM teSAM ca daityAnAM balAddhatvA puratrayam ॥ devakAryaM kariSyAmItyAsIcciMtAsamAkulaH ॥39॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनाशोऽभिचारतो नास्ति धर्मिष्ठानां न संशयः ॥ इति प्राह स्वयं चेशः श्रुत्याचारप्रमाणकृत् ॥ 2-5-3-४० ॥
The lord who had authoritatively laid down the rules of conduct according to the Vedas, said “There is no doubt in this that the virtuous ones cannot be destroyed by black magic.

nAzo'bhicArato nAsti dharmiSThAnAM na saMzayaH ॥ iti prAha svayaM cezaH zrutyAcArapramANakRt ॥ 2-5-3-40 ॥
