व्रतान्येतानि नियमात्कर्तव्यानि द्विजन्मभिः ॥ व्रतान्येतानि तु त्यक्त्वा जायन्ते तस्करा द्विजाः ॥ १६ ॥
The sacred rites shall always be performed regularly by the brahmins. By abandoning these Vratas, brahmins become robbers.

मुक्तिमार्गप्रवीणैश्च कर्तव्यं नियमादिति ॥ मुक्तेस्तु प्रापकं चैव चतुष्टयमुदाहृतम् ॥ १७ ॥
It should be done by those who are experts in the path of liberation by regulation The fourfold means of attaining liberation have been described.

शिवार्चनं रुद्रजपं उपवासश्शिवालये ॥ वाराणस्यां च मरणं मुक्तिरेषा सनातनी ॥ १८ ॥
Worship of Lord Shiva chanting of Rudra and fasting in the temple of Lord Shiva Death in Varanasi is the eternal liberation.

अष्टमी सोमवारे च कृष्णपक्षे चतुर्दशी॥ शिवतुष्टिकरं चैतन्नात्र कार्या विचारणा॥ १९॥
Aṣṭamī that falls on Monday, and Caturdaśī in the dark half are sure to bring about the propitiation of Śiva.

चतुर्ष्वपि बलिष्ठं हि शिवरात्रिव्रतं हरे॥ तस्मात्तदेव कर्तव्यं भुक्तिमुक्तिफलेप्सुभिः॥ २०॥
O Viṣṇu, among the four the most powerful is the rite of Śivarātri. Hence that alone shall be performed by those who desire the fruits of worldly pleasures and salvation.
