आयु: कृतं येन हि यत्तदेव कल्प्या दशा सा प्रबलस्य पूर्वम् ॥ साम्ये बहूनां बहुवर्षदस्य तेषां च साम्ये प्रथमोदितस्य ॥ ८-२ ॥
Indeed, by which length of life which is acquired is indeed that (the years allocated to the planet in chapter seven). The dasha to be prescribed is that of the very strong when equal of the many (in a similar zodiac sign). Of those (equally strong), (the planet) granting the greatest years (is prescribed). When that is equal, (the planet) rising first (is the dasha prescribed).
