होरा स्वामिगुरुज्ञवीक्षितयुता नान्यैश्च वीर्योत्कटा केन्द्रस्था द्विपदादयोऽह्नि निशि च प्राप्ते च सन्ध्याद्वये ॥ पूर्वार्धे विषयादय: कृतगुणा मानं प्रतीपं च तद् दुश्चिक्यं सहजं तपश्च नवमं त्र्याद्यं त्रिकोणं च तत् ॥ १-१९ ॥
The rising sign joined with an aspect from Mercury, Jupiter, or the lord [of the zodiac sign], and not with the others, is endowed with vigor. [The zodiac signs] situated in the Kendras (1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th) [are endowed with vigor]. The biped (human) zodiac signs [are endowed with vigor] in the day, the quadruped zodiac signs in the night, and the insect zodiac signs in both morning and evening twilights.
