पुत्रयोर् अपि यो जात्यं प्राज्ञं शूरं कृत अस्त्रम् एक पुत्रं वा ददाति सो अतिसंधीयते ॥

sanskrit

Even among two sons, he who gives (appoints) the one who is of noble birth, wise, brave, and trained in the use of weapons—or gives authority to only one such son—is said to act with excessive partiality (or special preference).

english translation

putrayor api yo jAtyaM prAjJaM zUraM kRta astram eka putraM vA dadAti so atisaMdhIyate ॥
