दम्पत्योः पिता पुत्रयोः भ्रातृऋणां च अविभक्तानां परस्पर कृतम् ऋणम् असाध्यम् ॥
Debts contracted from each other by either a husband or wife, either a son or a father, or by any one among brothers of undivided interests shall be irrecoverable.
english translation
dampatyoH pitA putrayoH bhrAtRRNAM ca avibhaktAnAM paraspara kRtam RNam asAdhyam ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअग्राह्याः कर्म कालेषु कर्षका राज पुरुषाश् च ॥
Cultivators or government servants shall not be caught hold of for debts while they are engaged in their duties (or at work).
english translation
agrAhyAH karma kAleSu karSakA rAja puruSAz ca ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्त्री च अप्रतिश्राविणी पति कृतम् ऋणम्, अन्यत्र गो पालक अर्ध सीतिकेभ्यः ॥
A wife, though she has (not) heard of the debt (pratisrávaní), shall not be caught hold of for the debt contracted by her husband, excepting in the case of herdsmen and joint cultivators (gopálakárdhasítikebhyah).
english translation
strI ca apratizrAviNI pati kRtam RNam, anyatra go pAlaka ardha sItikebhyaH ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपतिस् तु ग्राह्यः स्त्री कृतम् ऋणम्, अप्रति विधाय प्रोषित इति ॥
But a husband may be caught for the debt contracted by his wife. If it is admitted that a man fled the country without providing for the debt contracted by his wife, the highest amercement shall be meted out.

patis tu grAhyaH strI kRtam RNam, aprati vidhAya proSita iti ॥

if not admitted, witnesses shall be depended upon.
