रात्राव् अवस्कन्दं दत्त्वा सिद्धस् तिष्ठेत्, असिद्धः पार्श्वेन अपगच्छेत् ॥

Or having challenged the conqueror at night, he may successfully confront the attack; if he cannot do this, he may run away by a side path.

english translation

rAtrAv avaskandaM dattvA siddhas tiSThet, asiddhaH pArzvena apagacchet ॥
