स्वतंत्रेण परेशेन लोकोपकृतिकारिणा । लीलया परमेशानि चक्षुरुन्मीलितं मया ६ ।

By the Supreme Lord, who is absolutely independent and always acts for the welfare of the world, O Supreme Goddess (Parameshāni), my eyes have been opened through His divine play.

पुटाभ्यां चारुचक्षुर्भ्यां पतिता जलबिंदवः । तत्राश्रुबिन्दवो जाता वृक्षा रुद्रा क्षसंज्ञकाः ७ ।

From the corners of His beautiful eyes fell drops of water; those teardrops became trees, which came to be known as Rudrākṣa trees.

puTAbhyAM cArucakSurbhyAM patitA jalabiMdavaH | tatrAzrubindavo jAtA vRkSA rudrA kSasaMjJakAH 7 |

स्थावरत्वमनुप्राप्य भक्तानुग्रहकारणात् । ते दत्ता विष्णुभक्तेभ्यश्चतुर्वर्णेभ्य एव च ८ ।

They became immobile. In order to bless the devotees they were given to the four Varṇas devoted to the worship of Viṣṇu.

sthAvaratvamanuprApya bhaktAnugrahakAraNAt | te dattA viSNubhaktebhyazcaturvarNebhya eva ca 8 |

भूमौ गौडोद्भवांश्चक्रे रुद्रा क्षाञ्छिववल्लभान् । मथुरायामयोध्यायां लंकायां मलये तथा ९ ।

Having assumed the form of immobile trees (Rudrākṣa trees) out of compassion for devotees, they were gifted to the devotees of Vishnu and to all four varṇas (social orders).

bhUmau gauDodbhavAMzcakre rudrA kSAJchivavallabhAn | mathurAyAmayodhyAyAM laMkAyAM malaye tathA 9 |

सह्याद्रौ च तथा काश्यां दशेष्वन्येषु वा तथा । परानसह्यपापौघभेदनाञ्छ्रुतिनोदनात् 1.25.१० ।

On Mount Sahya, in Kāśī, and in ten other such places as well, due to their power to destroy even the most unbearable heaps of others’ sins — as urged by the Śruti (Vedic scriptures) — (these places) are declared supremely sacred.
