कृत्वाप्यनेकपापानि शिवनामजपादरः । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो भवत्येव न संशयः ३६ ।

Even if he has committed many sins, a person who has reverence for the Japa of Śiva’s names, becomes certainly free from all sins.

भवंति भस्मसाद्वृक्षा दवदग्धा यथा वने । तथा तावंति दग्धानि पापानि शिवनामतः ३७ ।

Just as the trees in a forest are burnt and reduced to ashes by the forest fire, so also are the sins destroyed by Śiva’s names.

bhavaMti bhasmasAdvRkSA davadagdhA yathA vane | tathA tAvaMti dagdhAni pApAni zivanAmataH 37 |

यो नित्यं भस्मपूतांगः शिवनामजपादरः । संतरत्येव संसारं सघोरमपि शौनक ३८ ।

O Saunaka, he who regularly sanctifies his body by the holy ashes and who performs the Japa of Śiva’s names crosses even the terrible ocean of worldly existence.

yo nityaM bhasmapUtAMgaH zivanAmajapAdaraH | saMtaratyeva saMsAraM saghoramapi zaunaka 38 |

ब्रह्मस्वहरणं कृत्वा हत्वापि ब्राह्मणान्बहून् । न लिप्यते नरः पापैः शिवनामजपादरः ३९ ।

A person who undertakes the Japa of Śiva’s names is not sullied by sins even after misappropriating a brahmin’s wealth and killing many brahmins.

brahmasvaharaNaM kRtvA hatvApi brAhmaNAnbahUn | na lipyate naraH pApaiH zivanAmajapAdaraH 39 |

After going through all the Vedas it has been decided by our ancestors that the noblest means of crossing the ocean of worldly existence is the performance of the Japa of Śiva’s names.
