ऋषय उचुः॥ उद्यापनविधिं ब्रूहि शिवरात्रिव्रतस्य च॥ यत्कृत्वा शंकरस्साक्षात्प्रसन्नो भवति धुवम्॥ १॥
The sages said:— Please narrate the Udyāpana (formal concluding) of the rite of Śivarātri as a result of which Śiva himself becomes delighted.
english translation
सूत उवाच॥ श्रूयतामृषयो भक्त्या तदुद्यापनमादरात्॥ यस्यानुष्ठानतः पूर्णं व्रतं भवति तद्ध्रुवम्॥ २॥
Sūta said:— O sages, may the concluding rite be heard with devotion and respect. By performing it, the Vrata certainly becomes complete.

चतुर्दशाब्दं कर्तव्यं शिवरात्रिव्रतं शुभम्॥ एकभक्तं त्रयोदश्यां चतुर्दश्यामुपोषणम्॥ ३॥
The auspicious Śivarātrivrata shall be performed for fourteen years. On the Trayodaśī day only one meal shall be taken and a complete fast shall be observed on the Caturdaśī day.

शिवरात्रिदिने प्राप्ते नित्यं संपाद्य वै विधिम्॥ शिवालयं ततो गत्वा पूजां कृत्वा यथाविधि॥ ४॥
On the day of Shivaratri he performed the daily rituals Then he went to the temple of Lord Shiva and performed worship in accordance with rituals.

ततश्च कारयेद्दिव्यं मण्डलं तत्र यत्नतः॥ गौरीतिलकनाम्ना वै प्रसिद्धं भुवनत्रये॥ ५॥
